Apothecia: large, 6-13 mm in diameter, cup-shaped with a stem-like base, margin and outside of apothecium with hyaline hairs
Asci: 240-270 x 18-21 µm, 8-spored, spores uniseriate
Paraphyses: straight to curved apically
Ascospores: ellipsoid, 19-24 x 10-12.5 µm, hyaline, ornamentation consisting of delicate, curved ridges. The ornamentation is hardly visible with 1000x magnification but becomes clearly visible after staining with lactophenol-cotton-blue.
Host: probably Polytrichum juniperinum, Polytrichastrum alpinum
Habitat: on soil, in open, base-poor habitats, together with Polytrichaceae, mostly in arctic-alpine habitats
Distribution: Alaska, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany (only found once, BB), Greenland, Madeira, Norway
